• Tain make easy work of Sams

Tain Thistle continued their season preparations with a comfortable 5-1 win over Inverness & District amateur side NMM Sams FC at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall this evening.

On the excellent 3G surface, Thistle passed the ball well and bossed the midfield for most of the game, switching between a 4-3-3 and a diamond throughout the game. They got off the mark early thanks to a cool finish from Darran Goller, before Liam Rostock doubled the lead with a 20 yard looping drive which sailed over the Sams keeper. In goal for Sams was former Tain Thistle Player of the Year, Will Macrae, now 40 years old and still going strong. Darran Goller withdrew midway through the first half with a groin strain, allowing full back Ryan Day to make his debut.

Goals were added in the second half from Jack Hudson, Cammy Mackintosh and with the best goal of the afternoon, Daniel Christie hit a stunning long range strike from which flew into the top corner. Were it not for Macrae's heroics in goal for Sams, the scoreline could have been much greater. Much to the chagrin of Tain manager Daniel Cormack, the Inverness lads netted a consolation goal on the stroke of full time, denying the Jags boss his first clean sheet.
