• Thistle brush aside Golspie Stafford

Tain Thistle's good pre-season form continued with a 6-1 win over Golspie Stafford tonight. Despite kicking things off with a calamitous error at the back - which allowed the Staffs to take an unexpected lead - the Jags dominated a first half in which they scored three times to give them a comfortable half time lead. Liam Rostock levelled the scores with a composed finish hitting into the back of the net via the oncoming goalkeeper. Cameron Mackintosh put Tain into the lead moments later slotting home a cut back before Rostock missed out on a chance to make it 3-1 when hit a shot off the post. Returning striker Mark Lamont eventually scored Thistle's third with a great solo effort shortly before the break.

With several substitutes having been introduced at half time, the game took a while to get going again, and it took a goalmouth stramash involving Alan Duff to kick the game into life again on 55 minutes, when the Tain man fortuitously tackled the ball past his man into the net. Donald Sutherland made it 5-1 shortly after before Duff scored his second, a cooly placed shot sent into the far corner from just inside the box, to make it 6-1.
