The Tain Thistle AGM for 2015 was held in the Railway Hotel last night, with news that the Club is in great health ahead of the forth coming season being the most pleasing news of the evening.
Dale Finlayson was unanimously re-elected as Chairperson for a third season, while Niall Harkiss also retained his place as Club Secretary and Treasurer. The following committee members were also elected for the season: Ian Christie, Brian Patullo, Darren Mackay, Steven Martin, Andrew Murray, Robert Ross (team manager), Kirsty McFarlane (sponsor representative) and Arron Christie (player representative).
We would like to remind supporters of the club that they can help to contribute towards our season costs by becoming members of our Supporters' Club - by contributing as little as £2.50 per month or £25 for a whole year, via Paypal subscription.
Money raised from subscriptions helps us towards our goals of ensuring players have proper training equipment, strips, insurance for the season and also covers match to match costs such as referee expenses and player refreshments. Click the link below to become a member.
A promising turnout for the first training session gave the management team of Robert Ross, Arron Christie and Allan Ross some food for thought as over 30 individuals took the field at the Tain Royal Academy Community Complex this past Monday night.
Tain Thistle will hold a Testimonial match to kick off the pre-season on Sunday, March 1st to recognise Liam Rostock, Daniel Christie and Martyn Farquhar for their continued service to the Club. Each player made their debut for the Jags during the 2006 season under manager Billy Russell, and now, in 2015, they will play in what will be their tenth consecutive season, marking a full decade of uninterrupted service.
A collection for charity will also be held at the game in memory of former players David Matheson and Mark Austin.
Tain Thistle are pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Ross as Team Manager for the next two seasons. A former Jags player with 80 goals to his name for the Club since 1997, Robbie is an experienced player who knows the club well. He will be assisted by Allan Ross and former manager Arron Christie.
Robbie made his debut for the club under Gordon Burry in 1998, after having responded to an advert in the local Post Office from a new team who were looking for football players. Although only 16 years old, Robbie netted his first goal on May 6th that year, against the Morven as Thistle fell to an 8-1 defeat.
Playing at a time when Thistle were frequent underachievers, Robbie stood out as one of the brighter talents at the club, scoring 5 times in 1999 and finishing as the club's top scorer in 2000 with 18 goals. After five years with the club, however, he left in 2003 to represent neighbouring Portmahomack, alongside a handful of other Thistle regulars. Robbie finally returned in 2007 after the departure of manager Billy Russell, to assist new boss Arron Christie. That year, the pairing led Thistle to their first ever trophy, with Robbie scoring in the Pattison Cup final to take the trophy home. His crowning achievement came in 2009 when he finished as the club's top goalscorer during their league winning season.
